I communicate with many people who are trying to start an Internet business. The biggest problem they face is that the tactics they are using are not ones which will result in a successful business. Most of them (like me at first too) have dollar signs in their eyes and are trying to get rich quick with very little work with an Internet business. Unfortunately there are many Internet marketing scams out there just waiting to feed the beginners what they really want: Work two hours per day and earn $5,000 per week!.wow, I wish it really was that easy to make money online!

Building an Internet business means building assets. A website with many pages of useful content which ranks well in the search engines is an asset. A list of targeted leads developed in a specific niche area is an asset (a list you build yourself via opt-in sign ups on your websites). Your own data base of customers who have purchased products from you in the past is an asset.

Beginners do none of these; its simply too much work. The amount of work required to build a real business does not fit the beginners notion that the Internet is all about quick and easy money.

Here are the top ten beginners mistakes (as I see them anyway):

1. Beginners fail to see the importance of learning web design.

2. They learn some web design, but then use a free host (with ads) and not their own domain. (Invest a few dollars per month for your own hosting!)

3. Beginners think Google AdWords are the path to riches. BIG beginners mistake!

4. Free classified advertising seems like a good idea; anyone ever hear, You get what you pay for?

5. How about a blog? Blogs are great! However, beginners are drawn to those free blogs one can set up on someone elses domain. They still have to promote the blog; now the beginner is promoting someone elses domain instead of their own!

6. Ok, a beginner learns web design, gets their own host, the slaps up a site with nothing but affiliate ads. Google will love that site. .not.

7. Repeat number six, but the site has good content and gets ranked and starts getting traffic. Great! But the beginner doesnt see the benefit of building a list; aweber (an autoresponder) costs twenty bucks a month. Beginners cant see that twenty bucks is a great investment in this case.

8. Beginners think they can buy their way to riches. They waste money early on buying products that only experienced marketers could take advantage of. You have to walk before you can crawl! Learn the basics first! These cost nothing but your time and effort!

9. Many beginners fall into the lets market to other beginners who dont know what they are doing. A beginner who hasnt made a dime will often have copy on their site boasting about the thousands they have made with the affiliate product they are promoting. Zero class will result in zero sales. What comes around goes around remember. If the only way you can make money is by scamming people, you have a problem.

10. The biggest mistake beginners make is giving up. They simply do not understand that all of us, even successful marketers, have had countless failures. The only reason we are successful is that we never gave up. You will fail at first. Accept that fact and learn from all those failures! Relentless Focused Action will result in success.
