So you’ve read the content on an internet marketer’s squeeze page. You’re vaguely interested in the products that marketer has to offer, so you decide to subscribe to his or her email list so you can learn more. You enter your name and your email address, and then you are redirected to a page which simply says, “Thank you for subscribing to this list.”

Most internet marketers don’t pay much attention, if any at all, to the “thank you” page that appears when someone subscribes to an email list. They simply think it is just a confirmation for the subscriber that his or her opt in request has been received.

The truth is, the “thank you” page is a valuable opportunity to build sales and make your business more profitable.

Why is the “thank you” page so valuable? Simply put, when a person decides to subscribe to your email list, he or she is already interested in what you have to offer. In fact, his or her interest is at a peak when the “subscribe” button is clicked.

After that, your subscriber’s interest will wane. Sure, you will help to sustain interest with autoresponder emails, but it will ebb and flow, instead of staying constant. After all, your subscribers are busy people, and they may not have time to read all of your autoresponder emails, no matter how well they are crafted. It is much more difficult to sustain interest through email marketing than it is to capitalize on the interest you have generated through your squeeze page or website content.

So how should you use your “thank you page” to generate sales? Well, instead of letting your autoresponder default to a generic “thank you” page, simply build an additional page on your website, and have your autoresponder redirect subscribers to that page.

On that page, you can tell subscribers about the types of emails they can expect to receive, and how these emails will help them improve some aspect of their lives. Then, you can tell them that while they are waiting for their first email from you, they can check out a product that might help them improve their lives immediately.

You don’t have to tell them much about your product on your “thank you” page. A short paragraph outlining the benefits of the product will work fine. Then, provide the link to the sales page for your product, and let your sales copy do the work for you.

If you are feeling adventurous, you can even place a CGI script on your “thank you” page which allows your new subscribers to tell their friends and family about your website and your products. That way, even if they don’t decide to buy one of your products immediately upon subscribing to your email list, you can still benefit by having them give you the email addresses of other people who might be interested in your products.

Using your “thank you” page to sell your products will put you ahead of most internet marketers competing for your business, and help you build a profitable business more quickly.
