A good website is that one that becomes a genuine friend: loyal as a pet. Websites can become a good partner for you but like any other friendship relationship you must understand that Communication is essential for developing such a good and long lasting relationship. A website use to be online 24/7 doing all what you want it to do, it can do more if you want and he will be agree with you always until you dont talk the way as it is. What type of communication can you maintain with your website? It depends on what area you are interested the most: either you want it to become more present in the network or you just want it to be elegant and user friendly so they can navigate and see what is there, or a brochure website, a flashy-fashion model website, etc.
When communication comes up to make it more present around the internet world you must know what internet marketing is, this is a very important type of communication when people or specific target group would visit (traffic) it and if they are interested on what you offer they will buy it. Internet marketing requires lots of techniques one of those is that one called SEO: Search Engine optimization which is to place your website on the most renown and famous Search Engine such as google, yahoo, msn, altavista, alexa and some other directories like dmodz among others matched on your searching criteria.
The way a website is crawled will depend on how well optimized is your website, onsite optimization is to restructure programming codes inside the website according to Search Engine language, that is to say it is not only the way a website looks that will make will attract more visitors. Another powerful technique is called link building, which is to interconnect with other websites that has a good ranking, it is like you want to deal with positive friends whom you can win not loose. A good linking project would include:
- Site name
- URL of the page where the link will be placed
- Known or estimated traffic
- IP address
- Page Rank
- Site and page subject
Links must come from sites with their own content, which are relevant to your own website activity. They have to be real sites, not artifacts to fool search engines. They usually have the following requirements:
- Site has to be PR 3 or better
- Only permanent links
- Related to your activity; very important: no gambling, porn, illegal content, etc.
- Blogs are acceptable (in the main submission only, not in comments), as long as the subject is relevant
- indexed in Google in the last 45 days; the page where the link will appear has to be indexed by Google, Yahoo! and MSN
- If it is a links page, then it cannot contain more than 40 links, and they have to have associated text
- No directories
- No sites under construction
- No mirror sites, link sites, sites overloaded with contextual ads or pop-ups, etc.
- The page where the link appears has to be search engine-friendly: no frames, redirections, links from flash or JavaScript, etc.
- Links have to be clearly visible and text-based (no image links)
- Links cannot appear as paid or sponsored links
- One link per domain - sub domains are not acceptable
- Pages cannot be inactivated in robots.txt, or contain a “rel=nofollow”
- Sites have to be in different IP addresses, in different class C
- Sites cannot participate in link exchange programmes, web rings, etc.
- Pages cannot be hosted in free hosting sites, such as geocities or tripod, among others.
Of course there are more steps to be followed by a good Marketer, especially when everything is nothing but to enhance, deepen and make it last that precious communication between you and your beloved friend: your website.
