The Death of Email Marketing
By Jared Masa
For years marketing by email has been the virtual goldmine for internet marketers. Those days are fast coming to a close. Email deliverability is down across the board. Spammers have effectively ruined marketing to leads via email.
The distrust of opt-in boxes and squeeze pages by the average person have spawned 10minute mail (if you haven’t seen this you’ll be well advised to visit www.10minutemail.com). 10minutemail is the latest tool for surfers to bypass opt-in pages to see what you have to offer. The point being that if the distrust wasn’t there in the first place, 10minutemail would not exist. If necessity is the mother of invention, then frustration is the bad-ass uncle of invention. So here we are.
Enter RSS.
With blogging becoming virtually omnipotent, bookmarking blogs is the subscription of the future. Forget email subscriptions, if you can get people to subscribe to your blog, you can market to them a thousand times better than an email. Probably the best thing of blog subscription is that it is administered by the subscriber. There is no possibility of intrusion…i.e. no SPAM. If nobody wants to see your blog, they don’t subscribe…end of story.
Bottom line is if you don’t have one, start a blog now. As you build good content encourage visitors to subscribe via RSS. Make those feed buttons big and be ready for the next trend in internet marketing.
Cheers and I’ll see you out there.
