The third thing that is important is that the niche must have the ability to convert. This often goes hand in hand with the number of searches that are done on a monthly basis. Generally, if there are a lot of searches, there is a reasonable amount of buying interest. However, there is often not a direct correlation, so it is important that you think specifically about the buying patterns of the types of people who might be searching for your keyword. Ask these types of questions: do people generally pay for information on this topic, or is it readily available online? If there is a lot of readily available information online for free, then this might not be the best niche for you.

Once you have decided on your niche, what is the next step?

You need to decide on your web business model. There are a few basic business models, such as the single product model, the multiple product model, and the affiliate. In the typical single product model, you will have one product available for sale, in the typical multiple product model you will have more than one product for sale, and in the affiliate model, you will be selling, or referring traffic to, affiliate products or sales pages. The affiliate model can be structured as a single or a multiple product model.

There are two basic implementations of your web business model, and they both are related to how you leverage your traffic.

In the first, the traffic driven model, you are generally sending traffic to your web site, hoping to convert the visitor into a one time and instantaneous sale
