There are so many tools out there in the Internet marketing world that it’s hard to keep up with them all. Squidoo is one of those fairly new tools that people seem to have a fascination with. All well and good, but without understanding what you’re actually using the tool for, you can sometimes get caught up in the “how to” and forget the “why” you’re doing it in the first place. This article is not going to give you a complete explanation of what Squidoo is and how to set up a lens. You can learn that anywhere. What this article IS going to do is make it crystal clear as to WHAT you need to do before you even get to the point of creating your Squidoo lens. Hopefully, after reading this, all the work you’re going to do combining modules, won’t be for nothing.

Okay, for those who don’t know what Squidoo is, here’s the 50 cent tour. Squidoo is a web 2.0 based site where you basically set up a lens on any particular topic and then add modules to this lens in order to “entertain” your visitors. These modules consist of text, videos, surveys, and other things. Squidoo gives you some really cool tools to create a site that can really mesmerize people. But tools without thought are empty tools. If you’re going to get the most out of your Squidoo lens, as a marketer, there are things you need to do beforehand.

For starters, you have to research your niche to see if people are even doing searches on it. If nobody is interested in what you have to say, you’re basically doing it for your own enjoyment and nothing else. Forget about making any money.

Even if people are interested in this particular niche, that still doesn’t mean that there is any money in it. So the next thing you have to do is research to see if people are spending money in this niche, and if so, on what. If you can make money from this niche, you need to figure out where the money is being spent. After you’ve done that, you either have to create a product to fill the need, or find an existing product to sell.

Finally, you want to make sure that your other areas are all tied into your lens. When I say other areas, I mean things like blogs or articles that you’ve submitted to other directories. You want to make sure that when you put your lens together that people can get to it from any one of your other sites and visa versa. Everything has to fit like a glove.

Most people do not put in the thought necessary when creating a Squidoo lens. Ultimately, what happens is they put up a lens that just sits there and does nothing. By going through this little checklist that I’ve given you, the chances of that happening will be greatly decreased.

To YOUR Success,
