This article was inspired by a recent forum post. You get all kinds, but this one made me realize that one of the biggest killers of success is burning your bridges. If you’re not sure where I am going with this, keep reading. I assure you that if you’re one of those bridge burners, this article may just change the way you deal with others.

Okay, so what was this forum post all about that got me so riled up? Well, this new member comes barging into the forum making the statement that he didn’t think that any of us were all that hot. By “us” he was referring to the successful people of the forum. He claimed that he had just made five sales in his first three days and it wasn’t as hard as people make it sound.

Some greeted him with a “way to go” but then there were those who warned him about burning bridges. Okay, what bridges in particular did he burn? In case this has gotten past you, what this person has actually done is insult every successful marketer of this particular forum…and trust me, there are many who come there.

Now, nobody can predict the future. This arrogant person may very well go on to become very successful, though I don’t know very many successful people who don’t know how to act around others. However, if the day should ever come that he needs the help of one of these successful people or decides he’d like to JV with one of them, how many do you think will jump at the chance? Think they won’t remember how he behaved upon coming to the forum? Trust me on this…successful marketers have long memories.

You can think what you like about the success of others. That’s your business. But making those feelings public knowledge is professional suicide. You’re not going to make any friends in this business by telling them that they’re not so hot. For that matter, any form of burning your bridge, such as arguing with others, calling them crooks or any kind of negative behavior with another person, is not going to help your business one little bit. So please remember this the next time you decide to mouth off about people not being as good as you.

You never know who you’re going to need and when you’re going to need them.

To YOUR Success,

Steven Wagenheim
