Can you memorize 32 numbers in 4 sets, 8 digits each? Yes you may say, but what if you have to do that for every website you wanted to access? Then you might give up surfing altogether. But because of domain names, accessing and viewing websites is a no-brainer.

Domain names are the text equivalent of IP addresses assigned to each website. Now, you dont need to delve in deeper on to how that is possible. What you need to know is how to secure a suitable domain name for the site you want to put up. Remember that domain names cannot be changed when leased and if you want to, you have to wait for a certain period of time to cease the existence of the domain name.

1. First of all, you must decide on what your domains content would be. You would not choose a name and then the contents afterward. It does not work that way. There are numerous naming conventions available you choose which you think is the best. You must keep in mind that people who will be looking at your site will be available to figure out easily as to why you have chosen that domain name.

2. Second thing to do is think of something exceptional yet not far fetched. This way youll gain the curiosity of people and would create traffic for your site.

3. Check the availability of your desired domain. Often times, someone else in some part of the Web have registered the same domain name. And sad to say, you cannot co-exist with the same domain name. Some web hosting companies offer free quotations as to whether what domain names are registered already.

4. Next, you have to decide as to where you would associate it. Bear in mind that .coms are for commercial websites, .net are for networks, .gov are for government institutions, .edu for educational purposes and so on and so forth.

5. And now that you have made sure you have chosen the right one for your website, you must register it through web hosting services. There are plenty available, they only differs on services they offer.

Domain names reflect the interest of the website and of the person behind it. It is your welcome sign to every one, thus it is only correct to have something that makes sense, easy to remember and solely yours.
