Search Engines have been a big part of society for many years now and some of us do not know how we ever lived without them. I know alot people who go onto different engines and type out full phrases like “I want to build a home in New York City” or “I want to find a 1969 Mustang” or “what do tadpoles need to eat to survive at home” (the tadpole answer is: boil lettuce, freeze, then serve).

Creating a territorial search engine by hand insertion is usually the best and safest way to see top quality results. All of us at one time or another has typed something into a search engine and have had a whole page of results that did not apply in the least bit to what we are looking for.

Search engines try their best to think as much like the human mind as possible. A search engines job is to provide you with the best possible answers to your search questions. There are a lot of things that may prevent your website from showing up in the right category or even being displayed in the results at all. Some of these are:

1. A “Site Map” is required for the “spiders” to crawl your site properly. For more info on this you can type “Google approved site map” in any search engine and you will have mucho info to review.

2. Your software may be blocking your content from the engines. This is an old problem that most web design software has fixed, but it still happens. Sometimes there is so much different code from the software that you are identified as that software company instead of your own company.

3. If you plan on building a website or redoing your current site, consider using CSS code instead of all HTML. Many people are turning to CSS because it is the code of the future and HTML may eventually be phased out.

4. Another thing you may need for your site is more content. It is recommended that you have a minimum of 150-200 words per page. Duplicate content is not favored so please rewording or just putting a link to the story should you wish to use the same story as another website.

5. Do now over-keyword your tags behind your pages. Be simple, exact, and reasonable. Add the basic keywords for that page to the tags and add the rest to your viewable content. Search Engines frown when we try to “spam” our own sites with keywords.

6. Have a clean site. If you have any dead pages or links on your site, remove them immediately. Even if they are not viewable, sometimes webmasters take the easy way out and do not remove the old pages on the server. This is like walking around with some old clothes that you do not use anymore on top of your new outfit.

7. (Bonus… not necessary for a search engine, but great for your business) Make sure your site is very very user friendly. Have you ever heard of “Copying Success”? Check out other sites that market, sell, or offer the same product as you… and see what they are doing right. Then make adjustments to your website. It may be something simple like re-organizing your buttons according to user favorites or according to your site priority. It may be adding some photos or your product or service. It may be adding some personal photos of you so the end user can identify with an actual person.

8. Don’t try to do all of these at one time. Build a Quality website just like you would build a quality home, prepare a quality meal, purchase quality clothing, etc. The whole world sees you through your website. Look Good!

This is just a quick list for your reference. Please keep these ideas and do some more research to find out some other available options. You can also contact a webmaster who cares about his work. Look in their portfolio and see their other clients sites. Do not judge webmasters by their pricing. The lower you pay, the less of a good website you will end up with. Use your money to build a smaller high end site instead of investing in a larger site that most people will never find or see. Quality! Not Quantity.
